Carrie Fisher was born for the Hollywood life, since both her parents, actress Debbie Reynolds and singer Eddie Fisher, were well-known Hollywood stars. Her initial break came with the film Shampoo, but her portrayal as Princess Leia in George Lucas’ Star Wars (1977) propelled her to international recognition. While the actress passed away in 2016 at the age of 60, she left behind a significant Princess Leia legacy that many people still remember fondly.

While the movie was released almost five decades ago, the behind-the-scenes happenings still linger around Hollywood halls. One of the most prominent examples of that would be another actress was in the running for Fisher’s legendary role, and if it hadn’t been for Harrison Ford’s lack of interest, she could have gotten it.

Not Carrie Fisher but another actress could have grabbed the role of Princess Leia

When somebody thinks about Princess Leia, it would be impossible not to mention the late Carrie Fisher. The actress portrayed the role of the Star Wars character so beautifully that even today it’s hard to imagine that another actress could have grabbed the role from her.

The other actress was Terri Nunn, actress and the lead vocalist of the band Berlin, who gave the audience hit songs like Take My Breath Away and Metro.

While other actresses, including Amy Irving, Farrah Fawcett, Cindy Williams, and Lisa Eilbacher, were also being considered for the role, Fisher was chosen after “runner-up” (via CBR) Terri Nunn read lines with Harrison Ford, who was just not interested. In an interview with Empire, Nunn had recalled:

At the time I was doing really well and I got some better scripts than most people. I remember George was really low-key. I don’t know if he knew what he wanted. I remember reading with Harrison Ford and him looking completely bored. I don’t think he was into me at all.

While the role finally went to Carrie Fisher, who did a tremendous job portraying Princess Leia, who knows if Terri Nunn had been given the same chance, she could have brought a different side to the character all together.

The truth behind Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher’s affair

We have heard about on-screen pairings transpiring into off-screen romances for several decades now. However, when these romances include a married actor and a 19-year-old actress, they quickly become headlines. The pair in question are Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, who worked together to play the roles of Princess Leia and Han Solo in Star Wars (1977).

While initially nobody was aware of it, everything changed in 2016 when Fisher decided to publish her tell-all autobiography ‘The Princess Diarist’ and revealed the off-screen affair that took place between her and Ford.

The news came as a surprise to many, given that during the filming of Star Wars, Harrison Ford was married with two children at the time and shared a 14-year age gap with Fisher.

According to People, Carrie Fisher described the three-month romance with Ford as “so intense” and added:

It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.

Their affair reportedly started when the Raiders of the Lost Ark actor saved Fisher from a crew member’s bad intentions that took place during George Lucas’ 32nd birthday bash. After that, he put her into his car, where they kissed, and the three-month affair allegedly began.
